Numerous people want to write books or publish other material, but they lack the confidence to pursue their dreams. The reason I wrote this book is that I want to memorialize my journey and build a bridge for others to follow. The first rule of writing is that “there are no rules for what is right and what is wrong.”

Authors write books on the doctorate level, others write for elementary-age children, and still, others write books on every level in between, but every author develops his or her style. Writers and authors sometimes shy away from pursuing a book or publishing project because they fear failure, lack the funding or feel they lack the talent. None of those three reasons should discourage a person from publishing a book.

My down-to-earth and practical tips should help move writers from the bench to the playing field. I use my recent writing experiences to share the lessons I learned from writing and publishing my first three novels. It wasn’t always easy, I sometimes got vague answers to critical questions, and I discovered that many self-help books focus on selling and marketing rather than getting it done.

Experts and professionals love and embrace traditional publishing and sometimes disparage self-publishing authors; however, self-publishing is as big a phenomenon as the introduction of the modern Hula Hoop by Arthur K. “Spud” Melin and Richard Knerr in 1958. Elvis Pressley, the Hula Hoop, and The Beatles fueled a new type of party for all generations of Americans. Everyone did not welcome those three popularity explosions, but all three endure 60-years later.

Self-Publishing is here to stay. It continues to evolve each day, and the support systems available increase each day as well. I hope this short “lessons-learned guide” will help someone decide to get in the game. Every book published cannot be a bestseller and most authors never aimed for that magnitude of success.

The good news about writing and self-publishing is the reality that although it remains a competitive venture for those trying the make money, it also provides an opportunity to move forward and learn without losing the farm. Millions of writers publish books without spending a nickel of their money upfront.

It’s 100% true, and an author can publish, unpublish, republish, or rewrite a book 100-times without spending a dime if that’s what it takes to learn the business. A student can format a school project or report into a published work, order a book-style draft copy of the project, and impress his or her instructor. Though I’m not trying to start a new trend, I believe that a person’s ingenuity, creativity, and imagination can lead to some fantastic results.

I encourage professional writers, novice writers, and beginners to read this book and get an inside track on the competition. If not trying to become the next millionaire writer, an author can use my book as inspiration and encouragement to take a chance and pursue a dream of becoming a published author.
